Had the best time at StokerCon 2017 on the Queen Mary. Very inspiring authors on panels who provided great wisdom and advice. I had some great conversations with fellow dark literature writers. The Bram Stoker Awards ceremony was an eye opener. Had a dream that inspired me to write a short story about attending the convention on the Queen Mary. A ghost story. It’ll be fun to write and share.

Corrected book release date is now December 8, 2016. The Smashwords.com 50% off Coupon Code DP97D can be applied until December 30, 2016. Thank you for your patience. My apologies to those of you who tried to buy my book thinking it was available a week ago. Yesterday, I learned that due to pre-order publishing algorithms, it takes at least ten days after publishing date to be available for purchase. This allows time for the distributors to accommodate for sales.
Last week, it felt great to beat the official date of release by one month. What I did not know is that the pre-order date had to also be manually changed, then ten days allowed to pass. Now I know. Best to you, Belinda A. Allen

My adventures are many for reformatting the electronic manuscript for easy upload into Smashwords Meat Grinder. Its a classy name for their fancy algorithmn to convert my Word.doc file into different electronic formats. The myriad of e-reader devices on the market should be able to properly present this e-book. Road Noise may not yet be available through the retailers such as barnesandnoble.com, kobobooks.com, or iBook just yet. The Smashwords team evaluates the book further for publication in the Premium Catalogue for release to the big retailers.
At Smashwords, you can download a sample of the first 30% of the book for free. Additionally, you can email a friend a sample of the book. Lots of opportunity to read my first collection of short stories.

Welcome to Belinda A. Allen’s blog. I’ll be parking random thoughts or cogent topics here mostly about my writing process and books. If you have a topic you’d like me to address, let me know. I’ll start this blog journey with a bit about the origination of my cover art for the book Road Noise: Short Stories To Thrill & Chill.
When I was considering options for the cover art for Road Noise, I took some freeway photographs as my son and I drove to San Diego, California. My hope was that I would find the perfect skid marks where a vehicle swerved off the road into guard rails. There were hundreds of these marks, each of which told a story of unexpected direction, but unknown consequence. Many of the most incredible marks could not be captured as a single image. They originated in the far left fast lane and traversed at an almost perpendicular arc across four to five lanes and up the concrete barriers as though the vehicle took to the sky. I’ll bet you’ve seen more than a few of these in your driving lifetime.
I also collected some images of long haul trucks thinking I could place the book title along the side of a truck as though a business name. The images were just too cold and lacked the emotional content that my stories are meant to convey to the reader. I drew the cover art myself, first easily in pencil and then not so easily using the open source software GIMP2. Looking at the cover art for other e-books, I quickly realized that none of the recent ones had graphic covers. Only the graphic novels did. Maybe, some day I’ll attempt to convert some of these stories into graphic novel format. Like when I have a spare 10,000 hours of time.
Here is a photo which combined both the skid marks and a truck side. Note the buggy windshield.
My Best to You on Your Journeys. And, I hope you come back for a visit.
